Programs at The Gwaimen Center
THE GWAIMEN CENTER
The Gwaimen Center works to create
opportunity for self-sufficiency. With
this, and the cultural contexts in mind,
essential skill training is offered at The
Gwaimen Center to promote income
generation. Examples of some of the
training available are:

Literacy Classes
Agricultural Techniques
Tailoring
Typing
Knitting
Baking (using local ovens)
Soap and Pomade Making
Tie and Dye

Many of these techniques are already
in progress. Tie & Dye classes have
begun and the garments will be sold at
markets. Sewing classes provide
widows the skills needed make clothing
for their families, and create products
to sell. Many of the orphans have also
started beadwork, creating beautiful
works of jewelry from locally crafted
beads.
Currently the Nigerian committee of
volunteers care for the needs of
nearly 50 orphans, providing three
meals a day, education, and a safe
place to play. However, there are
many orphans waiting for care,
many widows seeking skill training,
and many HIV+ individuals who
need medicine and treatment.
